I would agree that while yes, this is advertising (where concept should be king), plenty of fine posters don't have a direct connection to the artist. For instance, I've seen more than a few Morrissey posters that are 180 degrees from his aesthetic, but everyone on GP creams because they're visually interesting. This is advertising via eye candy. :: Now having said that, I think what makes, say, Decoder Ring's or Heads of State's posters so good is that they actually ARE idea-driven.
