Yes, this is very appropriate for RATM. It's a good poster. It is very well-excecuted. But it hits upon one of my biggest peeves, about political art in general:
I've seen so many posters and bits of punk/political/antiglobalist/leftist art/posters/zines etc that do the exact same thing as this, it makes my head swim. Take corporate logos, put them on a tank, a soldier's jacket, a bomber, etc., and you've made a potent statement about how militarism serves evil corporate agendas, and how corporatism leads to fascism. right?
Except it has about as much impact as the thousandth AIDS quilt. I don't know when or where this idea originated, but it is so played out as to have long since lost any potency it ever had. These designs have an incredible sameness to them. Union Carbide, Exxon and DuPont are ALWAYS on there. At least MDC put the logos on a badass skull-tank.
I always wince when I hear reportage of some demonstration, where a reporter naturally picks out the most dreadlocked, pierced kid they can find, and sticks a mic in his face. Invariably he spits out some clueless half-baked gobbledygook, sprinkled with "like" and "dude." And it has the net effect of making the whole thing look inarticulate and stupid, like that kid.
This poster, and this visual statement, is inarticulate and half-baked in the same way. It is the "bird poster" of leftist art.
This is the first time I have ever designed something to be screenprinted by someone else. Printing by Slowboy in Dusseldorf. I haven't actually seen one yet. We may or may not have some in time for flatstock.
