  The US was originally founded as a Masonic Republic. Much of the national symbolism and philosophy of liberty, etc. came from Masonic ethics & principles. Washington D.C.'s city plan was drawn along Masonic geometric designs & proportions. Most of the founding fathers were Masons. George Washington (the cool George W.) was Master of his lodge. Masonry used to be mystical and revolutionary but has since generally devolved into like a "good ol' boys' fraternity." Though in Europe there are more esoteric Masonic currents.
