Those are textile screens with coarse mesh. Fine if you're doing shirts, but not so well suited to flat stock.

he says he bought them from someone else to "get into the business" not sure what business that is. I haven't seen them in person. They may have the mesh count printed on the side but he doesn't seem to even know what that means.

the other thing to consider is that the emulsion might be locked in the mesh on some of them

I got a ton of used equipment last week from a guy who tried to "get into the business". $4500 for a flash dryer, conveyor dryer, 6/4 shirt press, vacuum exposure unit, 10 gallons of plastisol, various chems, and 15 wood & aluminum screens. It all rules... except for the half-dozen wooden screens.

White mesh = probably 110 or 160. Great for shirts, sawtooth hell for paper. Sweet price even for wooden screens, but unless you do shirts, don't bother.

Speaking of shirts, any of you Chicago printers dabble in the textile? I had a friend of a friend ask me to do shirts. I don't do textiles and don't plan to start. I work with commercial printers as part of my day job but this person has a small-in-scope job that she would rather keep with a small owner/operator shop. Scope of job: 20 shirts to start - one color - one design - possible reprints down the road. If anyone feels like quoting something like that out, send me a message and I'll send her your contact.
