Hi guys,
I will come to USA in March for 1 month, from the 12th of March till the 9th of April.
I will participate to Flastock 38 in Austin... then, i planned to make a little trip till San Francisco.
I have to see if i take the bus or if i rent a car.
Normally, i will stay around 1 week in Austin (from the 12th to the 19th of march), then 2 weeks of travel through Texas / New Mexico / Arizona and California (from the 19th to the 31th of march)... to finish by 1 week in San Francisco (form the 1st to the 7th of April).
I've got 2 nice contacts in Austin and San Francisco, who will host me.
I would like to know if some of you here knows some nice people on those cities (i'm planned to visit)?
And if you recommend me some nice stuffs to see, i'm also interested...
Here's the cities / places i would try to visit on the way :
Austin / Dallas / Fort Worth / San Antonio / Las Cruces / Tucson / Phoenix / Grand Canyon / Flagstaff / Joshua Tree / San Diego / Los Angeles / Santa Cruz / San Francisco
Thanks in advance...
Gaspard
hey, i was wondering if you guys know if square credit card readers work inside the convention center? or do i need to pay extra for the intronet?
Hey guys. First post ever after years of lurking. I'll be in Austin for Flatstock this year (for which I am Fucking Stoked) but beyond knowing that the hotel stay and poster booth have already been booked, I don't really know what else to bring or expect.
I'm from Toronto, Canada, and I've never exhibited at a convention or even attended a Flatstock before. Any advice or tips I should keep in mind?
Really looking forward to coming into the fold, meeting a ton of you, and seeing all of your stuff in-person.
Bring a spare liver.
You also will need materials to hang your posters on the provided cardboard: push pins, binder clips. Get a Square reader or equivalent so you can process cards. Scissors, tape, sharpies, something to use for price tags, Some sort of sign or banner to represent yourself. Gimmicks. Promotional items. etc.
Be outgoing and friendly. Make eye contact with everyone that approaches your booth. Introduce yourself to your peers. Be neither a suckup nor a shrinking violet. Self-deprecation isn't charming, it is creepy. Be confident in the quality of your own work. Stand up and engage people in conversation. Don't cross your arms wondering why nobody has bought anything yet; it always starts slow. Be a good sport. And whatever you do, don't sit there fucking with the internets on your iPad, ignoring everything around you. That doesn't work for anyone...except Tuffy somehow, and he has magical Tuffy powers, and attractive assistants.
Bring an attractive assistant.
Duly noted.
I was wondering about extras like promotional items but I was pretty clueless on what hanging substrates to get. Definitely gonna need a banner as well. Also, do people usually have their prints shipped in to the convention center or their hotel? Or would it be wiser to invest in some roadie cases like I've seen on here? Since this will be my first time interacting with so many people on posters, I plan on bringing a hefty number of prints.
Thanks for the tips on conduct. While hopeful that things will go smoothly and pleasantly, I'll be going in with carefully managed expectations, a steeled heart, and an outgoing attitude. Also, my sister will be tending the booth with me. We're set.
Thank you Dan!
Yeah, do we have a central place to ship them to like at Flatstock Chicago?
there is a usually a central place to ship stuff too. I'm sure the location will be added soon.
As Dan said, liver bring two.
I won't have my friendly boothmate, my wife. So all smiles and shit grins.
trying to come up with a FS poster that Mikeage would be proud of.

Hey ya'll Texas API persons, I need a booth number so I can order an extra table from Freeman. Have you made the map yet? Also, where do we ship our crap? Maybe I'll just send it to Frank seeing as I'll be spending all my time there.
Brg!
Barricades of hamburgers divide the nation.
ummm - i don't think you need anything from Freeman - they are just phishing for money. If you have a double, you get 2 tables - and there are usually extra. let me talk to geoff/ val and i will repost here.
