jasoncrossSend jasoncross a message :   Hey all,
This has gotten off track I think. The discussion with Art, I believe, on the 'CURTAINS' poster was more about design as design vs. design as message and if the absence of a heavy dialogue in a graphic piece make it less succesful than say one with a stronger voice.
The support I have given Jason is against all those who think he somehow 'copied' AA. I dont think that argument holds at all and for that Cody you are making my point, I agree. But, Art was merely jumping on my mis-use of the 30% rule as flawed and misleading, as it is - so I added changes, and not really ever dissin' Jason for having been inspired by AA.
I hope this clearification can end any angst because I feel the whole discussion of Jason's poster and Inspiration is a good one...a community should be inspiring to each other...I truely feel as time goes on he will distance himself from everyone else and hone is unique individual style and aesthetic.
adios, plastk

art chantrySend art chantry a message :   cody - honestly! with 'fans' like you, who needs enemies?   2002-12-10 11:39:28
Cody PomeroySend Cody Pomeroy a message :   and besides, look at some of your other posters on here, mainly my posts about them, I have enjoyed your work and have given you praise many times, the moment I call out something I deem to be a little hyppocritical, and all of a sudden I'm an idiot? Do you treat all fans of your work like this?   2002-12-10 11:22:07
Cody PomeroySend Cody Pomeroy a message :   whatever dude..yer blowing this way out of proportion.   2002-12-10 11:15:22
art chantrySend art chantry a message :   c'mon, don't be an idiot. your game is right in your last post for eveyone to see and call their own shot on (just like you do on me).
go post in the other discussion. your positions would be welcome.

Cody PomeroySend Cody Pomeroy a message :   not trying to trash you at all, you're awful quick to defend yourself Mr Chantry. I'm just trying to point out that every artist bites off another. Me trashing you would be if I said something like, "This poster his total shit, Art Chantry couldn't Illustrate his way out of a paper bag" or some such thing which I don't beleive to be true. Don't be so defensive man.   2002-12-10 11:09:40
art chantrySend art chantry a message :   cody - what you are doing is obvious - you're trying to trash me. we'll don't bother. you don't have to be a genius to see that i didn't invent this look (it's actually based on stanley mouse's monster art - who is the guy that roth DIRECTLT ripped for rat fink - so your argument is even lamer than thou).
this sort of culture fuck is exactly what interests me about grahic design. it's part of the dialog. there have been NO new ideas in this dialog for nearly fifty years - so your attack is kinda stupid,no?
so let's go with this theme (over in the 'pirating' thread over on the other board). why don't you post your thought about this whole turf? at least you can try to trash me in a more permanent board.

Cody PomeroySend Cody Pomeroy a message :   okay, maybe one of the other 150 monsters designed by the same guy, making a pint. Nobody on here should hold themselves as holier than though for using material that someone else has used. Almost every single one of you do it. Can you honestly say that everything that you've ever used on a poster has come from entirely within your mind? I think not.   2002-12-10 10:48:27
art chantrySend art chantry a message :   it's not rat fink. doesn't even look like rat fink. i know what your point is, but it doesn't hold water. do your research, cody. try again.   2002-12-10 10:45:35
Cody PomeroySend Cody Pomeroy a message :   uhm...would this be a rip-off of Rat Fink?   2002-12-10 10:44:18
