"he makes PROMO posters and isnt concerned with after show sales. " Even more reason it should advertise the band and the show appropriately. It's primarily being used to draw people to the show. As an ad I'd say this isn't very effective.
this fort polio fellow seems cool to me.
I don;t think it's that big of a problem if it doesn't "portray a line from a song" or something like that. At least they get hung all over the city and tell people that there is a tiger army show on may 9.
as chloe said, he makes PROMO posters and isnt concerned with after show sales.
I still think is cooler than the normal, venue created, black and white flyer, picture of the band with some "edgy" font across the top on hot pink and orange paper.
Sean from The Creepshow asked if I would do a poster for it but it didn't materialize. I do dig Fort's style, but I have to agree that the image isn't too appropriate for bands that are steeped in horror movies.
im not saying shes wrong. theres a lot of places where there is little to know promotion for a show. this isnt the case. the promoter is in the wrong for letting this go as advertisement of their event, but i mean this guy said straight out that he even likes them but it doesnt matter to him. its bullshit.
"my motivation for this was the same as it is with anything - it's what i felt like drawing. i totally understand why it doesn't exactly fit with the band's image. i even LIKE tiger army enought to be familiar with them, their music and their style. but it doesn't make a difference to me either way." - this is fucking bullshit. make art prints like mike said. its bad when someone designs without listening to the band at all. its worse when you are familiar with the band and still put together this bullshit.
well, i like the lettering on this a lot........for what it's worth, if she was gettin' liquid leopard print poured on her i'd find it more fitting for the bands.
I hate when I do a poster for a friends band in a timely manner and they don't get the posters printed up and sent to the club...that means you West Indian Girl :)
well i don't know what tiger army sound like or are about but as someone in a touring band , i appriciate any effort made to promo our shows , even if i don't always love the posters.
even when the posters kinda confuse me stylistically.
we play tons of shows where there NO posters or even worse , where there's someone hawking a silkscreened poster online but there are no copies to be seen on the streets , at the venue and none of the bands nor the promoter get's one.
fort polio is legit , all his stuff is made to promo the shows , not to be collectors objects.
some artists are asked to do posters because of their involvement with their local music scene.
Some people are so creative they can make the poster before they even know who the band is. Then they can just like, slap the band's name on it. IT CAN BE THAT EASY.
mmm. don't agree with that. poster makers aren't there to service music, we're here to collaborate with music, and i think that leaves lotttttttssss of room open.
my motivation for this was the same as it is with anything - it's what i felt like drawing. i totally understand why it doesn't exactly fit with the band's image. i even LIKE tiger army enought to be familiar with them, their music and their style. but it doesn't make a difference to me either way.
i was asked to draw a poster for them, and i did. if the person that asked me (from the venue) wanted something else, they shoulda asked for someone else.
