Just picked these up. I have to say Mr. Walters did a damn fine job....and made a great suggestion to make the gray a metallic. Looks awesome. Thanks Steve, you're the man!
Typically in stage/screen movement all the way from medieval pagentry, Evil enters from stage left, or your right. Evil has been associate with the left, i.e. "The Left Hand Path." So, if you look at the poster, the horned warrior is entering from the left (stage left, not your left.) But, if the viking is good, then, yeah, it would be the other way.
I guess my thinking was that it was the horseman's "trophy" taken from a feudal Japan style warrior.
Kind of like those skeleton warriors in Onimusha.
Dork and dweeb comments commence.
This rules just as much as the last one. The only thing I'm confused about is the skull in the background at the top border... what's with the hat?
Nevertheless, this fucking kills.
Michael- apparently in advertising theres a golden rule that when advertising something that denotes direction, like for instance a car, it must face like its moving to the right. It implies moving forward, going places, etc etc positioning like this poster has implies the opposite. wierd subconscious shit, kind of shows how advertising can dictate perception without you even knowing it.
For some reason it seems like the dude and the horse should be going the other direction. But that's probably just an annoying critque.
Pretty amazing poster.
It has a viking/warrior corpse ghost with a sword riding a warhorse at breakneck speed. Lots of flames and skulls and pot leaves. Red and yellow on black. This is about as far from the usual HOF poster as possible. I mean Saputo didn't even attempt to "step outside the box" at ALL. And since it has been established over the last few years that HOF is the perfect band for a designer to attempt their own interetation of the bands established visual look.... I say... it's all wrong for HOF.
