I spent my summer's growing up in a dry county in rural Kentucky. WHen I was 16, this guy named Crabtree that worked at the dock took us to his still out in the woods. His paint thinner was tasty.
when i was in high school, we had a still in a friend's old childhood treehouse! we stole the equipment from hi-skool chem class and distilled our own cus we couldn't buy it. we used the rubber hose from class and everything tasted like the inside of an old inner tube. we had to cut it with a shitload of koolaid before we could swallow it. but, swallow it we did!
since you asked...
the samples he had were sold to him in all sorts of containers - some with "labels" scribbled and pasted, but mostly not. my favorites were the teeny-sized hip flasks (that small size isn't sold in this state, but are common down south) refilled with shine and then a marking pen scribble on the old label saying something like "elmer's shine" or some such. other cool ones were in refilled pop bottles. basically, the containers weren't very important. he had a couple dozen samples. i tasted a couple and some of it was awful.... awful strong, that is. WHOOOO!
