I guess none of the worthless circle-jerking pricks get any show of regret.
Backing up Tuffy's statement, here's some links.

I'd say it's akin to the car riding through the tree idea. People have seen it a lot, but it all depends on how you execute it and how it's used. Here coupled with the band name, it's a pretty interesting and funny image. Mike found a way to play with the band name that didn't involve a snowman sporting a 12 inch cock.
Mike, like i said, i apologize for making such an accusation in a public place, i could have done so privatley, and you and I could have resolved it out on a personal level. My mistake. Im sorry.
The jabs I made at the others were not meant to insult you, and for that I also appologize.
My initial statements were made more out of anger than anything else, you have to understand that from my point of view, i saw a poster that APPEARED to have been ripped off, not only should that make any designer uncomfortable, but that fact that it was from 2 close freinds that i was angered further. You can imagine that at this point my decision making skills may not have been at their peak and I acted too quickly.
Like i said, I am sorry for the way that I have treated you, mike king, I hope this appology is sufficient.
I'm willing to bet he still doesn't have a clue. Probably just smashing his fist into his palm muttering, "I'll show them . . . I'll show them all."
At this guy's maturity level, Mike King will probably have to watch out for a bucket of pig's blood falling on him when he wins prom queen.
i think some people don't realize that a lot of the folks on here aren't just "forum buddies" ... we're real-life colleagues and real-life friends. we have seen and touched each other in person. a alot. are you ready to be seen and touched?
Of all the designers on this site that could be accused of ripping someone's work, Mike King is probably one of the least-deserving of such an accusation. You need to do your homework kid.
sorry to return to this, i meant to respond to it this morning, but i have been busy.
uglybogus, that is pretty much the worst apology ever.
i think what you fail to realise is that accusing someone of theft is a pretty big deal and not the kind of statement that should be made lightly.
you said in a public forum without any proof, that i was stealing from your friends, thats is a rather slanderous statement and i take it very personally.
your half assed apology about being sorry that you made a bigger deal out of it than it needed be, doesnt quite cut it.
i also dont understand why when you are on your high horse about defending your friends, you are some noble and glorious creature, but when people defend my side of the story, they are kissing my ass for free stuff. i hope dave n troy give you some tee shirts.
who is the bigger asshole, someone who accuses someone of being a thief without any proof, or someone accuses someone of being a punk kid?
i suggest you think very carefully about what you say next.
see you at flatstock!
mike
I'll appologize to mike king for making this into a way bigger event than it needed to be. Sorry mike. I was in the wrong attacking you in public.
I WILL NOT appologize to the rest of you worthless pricks that feel the need to be completle assholes to me and my freinds for no other reason than to hope mike king will see your comments and send you free posters for jerkin his ego off some more.
On gigposters.com, it doesnt matter if your in the right or wrong as long as youve got 20 or so forum buddies to back you up and call some punk kid names and insult his freinds and their artwork.
Congrats you guys are kickass human beings!
you didn't need to double-check your "forum-cred", you shoulda just used your brain before posting.
read burwells comment once again, it's pretty right on.
uglybogus is a jackwad with a ripped off logo from an old comic book company.
this is a common idea for an image, who did uglybogus's friends rip it off from? I'd pretty damn sure Mike did not rip it from your friends or anyone else for that matter.
your friends should be stoked that they came up with the same idea as a profesional like Mike King.
They are defending a friend against a callow jackass making a greivous and slanderous accusation.
You are defending your friends from imaginary dragons.
Im sorry, i dont understand how trying to defend a couple of freinds makes me a punk kid? Isnt that exactly what you guys are doing? Wow that amkes all kinds of sense!
I guess ill just leave you to your circle jerking party here and be on my way.
i've run into many cars filled with trees in my years of tromping through the woods and fields of north carolina. mike, you stole my past, you bastard.
Well, I'd say this debate is over (sez Captain Obvious). Let's get back to admiring this thing of beauty.
I'll add to Jetsah's comment that I found a good White Castle in MPLS last week. Sarah and I went to one out there six years ago, and everyone looked at us like we pissed in their lunches. We were kinda put off, needless to say, on the WC experience for a while.
Ugly, yer a punk kid. Mike King didn't steal this from anyone. As Tuffy said it's a standard image of Americana. Mike King is what is known as a professional with credibility out his wazoo and a long long long list of clients and phat reputation that stretches behind him for DECADES and is not likely to take his ideas from your friends' crappy student tee shirt. Don't be stupid.
Learn to keep your trap from flapping so quickly and so violently and you'll possibly learn how to go from a zero to a hero in whatever field this is. I hope Dave and Troy can handle it. Jeezus.
conceptually similar but this is also a pretty common image... I've seen plenty of photographs of this exact thing... there's a coffee table book of abandoned truck that has an old truck with a tree growing through the front. I think there was a movie that had a scene with a car happening as well. I don't think mike riped anyone off... I think he did a nice poster of what has become a piece of ephemeral americana.
i love mike
mike's version is 1 billion percent better executed than the one from those pimply blokes
besides, Mike hangs out with waaaay hotter chicks and therefore wins by default
hmm. controversy
over the last few decades of poster making, i have done some pretty blatent swipes of other peoples work...this is not one of them.
i have never seen that tee shirt design before, just because i have the abilty to see something that is on the internet, doesnt mean i have, it doesnt surprise me that i came up with the same idea as someone else (its kind of obvious, really)
it makes me sad that anyones immediate response is accuse me of being a thief.
my initial impression of uglybogus, is that you might have a tendency toward making rash accusations.
but if you say otherwise, i would be willing to give you "the benefit of the doubt"
cheers
mike
I agree that people do come up with the same ideas all the time.
But i dont see hwo you can "give him the benefit of the doubt" on this one. Yes its a diffrnt tree and car, but i guess it must also be a coinicidance that the trees are nearly identical in scale relationship to the cars, not to mention that cars are nearly in identical angle to the viewer.
Ripping and lifting are two very diffrnt things, your right, this isnt a lift, its "diffrnt", but its so friggen rediculously similar that theres no way in hell i would call this anything but a rip.
Professionals stealing from students is so messed up, and the worst part is i respect mike's work, i enjoy his posters, but this is bullshit.
This is where I say "great minds think alike" and give Mr. King the benefit of the doubt, because he fuckin' rules. Folks come up with similar ideas all the time. Different tree and car.
There's a certain person on this site that will say this is more of the "sheepism" of this site, but I'm long past being polite to that person.
Personally, I dig Mike's image better.
wow, nice rip. I'll bet and Dave and troy are really pissed.
