thank you guys so much for the amazing compliments...! working on comics now has definitely raised my awareness of body language and the expression of emotion. It has really challenged me and pushed me in a whole new direction with my art. it's very exciting for me! hopefully this poster will make it in time to be framed for the exhibit at BLK/MRKT!
yeah... I was looking at a painting of hers at the art show for Flatstock 3 and was amazed by the qualtiy of the execution. TOP NOTCH.
I had to settle for the art print of the image.
Seriously...there are very few poster artists working today whose work is consistently at a very high level. Like just about EVERYTHING is quality. ALWAYS. I strive to be one of those, but it's doubtful I'll ever have the patience and perseverence to put hours of painstaking work into every piece I do. Anyone who has ever examined one of Tara's paintings up close knows what I'm talking about. It's just damn impressive- end of story.
Tara's colors and use of shadow always make me envious. This is a gorgeous piece of art.
Christ on a bike- There is no fucking way I could spend five minutes around someone who constantly talked like they walked out of a Monty Python skit without going ballistic on them. My English literature teachers were always the dorkiest ones.
The hair is particularly good in this. And the shadows; which make a great contrast to the flatness of the pattern in the tentacle; as though it's lit from within...
This is definitely my favorite of yours.
sully? nah, it's enhancing mine. that goofball's accidentally hilarious. give a decent person a rope and they'll climb out of the hole, give a jerk a rope and they'll hang themselves.
every time.
"Thank you Mr. Gruber for auditioning for the part of 'The Devil' for this Twilight Zone episode. I think we'll go with another overactor for the part. Next." - Ron Serling
i thought word for word what witt said. it's the intense expression that make this poster stand out from all the others tara has done. this is an accomplishment.
It is sad that when people try to take the acclaim from those who deserve it to shine some meager light on themselves. Those that shall not be named should be ignored and left to ponder the inadequacies of their own existence.
Tara this rocks, well done dude.
definitely tara's best, amazing. the band name works for me where it is because it reminds me of the old japanese prints that had text floating around.
I love everything about this except the placement of the isis text. if it was somehow incorporated into the botto with the rest of the text or somehow integrated better with the image it would be hands down best tara poster ever.
Carl, you should come to Tara's opening on the 6th in Culver City. I'd love to meet and discuss art (not that i'm an art expert but it is something that i enjoy very much) with you. I love meeting new people.
here's a link with all the info.

Was ir Carl Gruber who was defending Jermaine last week? I think tara (and many others) took a page from his book on how to use personal style to achieve success in this business.
wow carl, you are a jackass. an artist finding and continuing to use motifs, patterns, color pallettes, and subject matter that work well together isn't an artist being stuck or trapped in something. it's an artist who is creating an identity, a style, and recognition of talent and artistic growth. and as such, a well-deserved following, in my opinion. vague critics like you are hilarious.
so carl you are a designer in la?
you should post your portfolio here so we can see how redundant you are. But then you probably can't post you'r portfolio because that would show us who you really are.
is it bad if an artists works within a certain style? Personally i don't think so.
Oy vey. I broke a sweat looking at this. The expression of the figure and the design on the snake compliment each other so well. The color is nice too.
One more reason to hate you Tara. Grrr...
what makes this easily my favorite McPherson poster is the intense expression on her face. Nearly all the figures in every poster shes done have this blank stare, and this lady is SCREAMING in HORROR!
My guess is Tara's been drawing/painting lots of figures with a range of expressions in the comic book she's been slaving away on, and is getting very comfortable with their representation, thus this direction.
I hope to see more like it. Totally awesome.
