I liked the movie, well, at least enough to buy it even though I hadn't seen it in the theater. I think the whole fucking Steve Buschemi was kind of a way of combining Ghost World with "Caricature" , another Daniel Clowes story(I think that was what it was called), about a young girl getting involved with a creepy caricature artist. At least that's how I interpretted it. My favorite part had to be the Blues Hammer part. I totally lose it every time I see it.
"Ah've been plooooooooooooooooowinnnnnnnn!!!!!! Pickin' cotton all day longgggggggggg!!!!!!!"
becky character was non existentant.
the fact they pulled out every little one strip joke, it was the 'the best og 8ball! the gags don't stop!'
i dunno i though the vibe was totally off and the movie was overrated.
the script just doesn't hold.
and why do the have her fuck him? it's all wrong. enid would never fuck some creepy old.
that was just put there cuz them guys are aging pervs.
Daniel Clowes is a genius and his tenure as editor of Wierdo was one of the magazines many peaks. I thought Ghost World was as good an adoptation of a graphic novel as Hollywood has ever done and the way he & zeigoff(sp?) found living, breathing versions of his creations was incredible. They also worked in his drawings to great effect. That new Eightball is a must read and a welcome relief to the mundane David Boring series that I loved anyway because of his abilites to convey words and imagery together on a united front. I think Clowes wouldn't have made the central female character as stunning as the poster here, but all the elements of his style are on display here from the clean use of line to the economy of the composition. It's a good place to start as a designer though he could possibily sue the designer for lifting his concepts so blantantly. I guess that kind of suits the artist, Dave Wakeling, whose entire carrer is based on standing on the shoulders of giants( Toots & the Maytals, Prince Buster, Skatalites, etc.) to make his living. The reason I like this poster is because I love the work of Daniel Clowes. Is that a compliment?
poster mistress* ok, the scrojo fan club membership: my mom and...poster mistress...got it! be expecting your de-coder in 4-6 weeks.
bopst* thanks, that's a big compliment in my book. i'm a huge dan clowes fan ( i'm still depressed that 'ghost world' wasn't animated. i think a major chunk was missing without clowes' artwork).
thanks guys. i'm really stoked on how this one came out.
gigart* i'm glad you caught on to that. i was afraid that didn't come across. originally i wanted to add torn posters of general public (,dave wakeling and the free radicals and bang) but that just turned into a confusing pile of visual vomit.
hampton* oh great, now the pressure is on the next posters. thanks for the help and support mate. i'm not sure what places i'm going to but hopefully they'll need posters.
monoshocks* i'm also a fan of the old two-tone stuff but i thought it would be fun to update some classic imagrey.
philaarts* thank Y-O-U. i'll shoot you an email so i can defile your pretty new wall.
