this is the only diane arbus poto i can ever remember. i've seen a lot more, i know, but this one sticks out. so overused, though.
like thast joel- peter witkin photo 'the kiss' for goth bands...
this is an extremely famous photo by diane arbus. if any of you are not familiar with her work, you should try and find a book about her immediately - it'll totally wig you out.
she killed herself about twenty years ago - slashed wrists in a bathtub routine. the good part is that she set a camera with a timer and photographed it. a friend of mine was the daughter of the friend who found the body. she took the film out and destroyed it.
all for art.
Oh yeah...Sticky Filth...hahahaha New Plymoths Finest!!! Youre flashing back to The Mushroom Ball's huh??? I remeber some of HLAHs earliest posters were pretty awesome, I think Gerald used to do em all... he managed both Hole n Shihad. I remeber standing at a train station in Paraparaumu, trying to figure out if I could steal the poster that was stuck on the wall across the tracks, and NOT get hit by a train... Freaked out Doll poster, for a Shahad gig.
aint seen it...probably got a couple classics around meself tho...oh yeah, got a cool Sticky Filth poster...cept it's a record release "Weep Woman Weep", bugger...
I think Head Like A Hole briefly also used this for a tour poster in NZ about 10 years ago... either them or Shihad... cant remember all a blur. Must post up a classic tour poster they used in NZ... hehehe will hunt for it.
Yeah I can't remember, but I've seen it on both 7"s and fliers. But you gotta admit, if any picture was ever worth a million posters, this might be it!!
right
i remember seeing them after a show and they told me they were being sued... i guess it was just a cease and dissist, and they had to destroy and reprint new artwork..
long live punkrok
yeah I've seen this photo a couple different places... I know of a hardcore band that used it on their 7" cover back in like 96 or 97 (just incase this gets read by anyone who could cause trouble I'll just say I can't remember their name. Such a great picture for punk /hardcore.
Nice use of a famous photograph. Haven't 2 bands already been sued bigtime for the use of this photo? i know SNAFU was one of 'em back in the mid 80's...
