honestly, i didn't know that print mafia posters we're going to be at this show. i asked marc at onepercentproductions if i could sell the posters there, and i'm sure he got it okay'd by somebody involved. the merch people for the shins we're unbelievably cool about it. and from the looks of that night, i didn't even come close to competing with there sales, so i think they we're cool about it.
i was just sitting here making a list of my own. how many ways can it be said that connie is super generous? wow.
anyway, this poster is quite nice. congrats.
The Shins are very nice and like posters so Pachunka probably lucked out since it is a kick ass poster and the band liked them.
He may have an agreement with the venue and the venue may have let the Shins see it and they probably OK'd it.
I'm not saying that people can't do Shins posters. I have gladly handed over the contact info to others and they have been told "no thanks, we already work with a company".
All I'm sayin' is you should ask the band/management if you are going to try and compete for their merch dollars.
All it will take is for a few influential bands to get pissed off and then were will we all be then....
yea i understand that...how was C pachunka able to sell them then? if the band says no, im totally ok with it. i occasionally go though the band, but not that often.
Yeah you really should have asked the band whose name your using on your poster before you go the trouble, time and expense.
..,by the way the Shins work with us on their merch posters and sell those posters at the shows - so they probably don't want unapproved competition.
And not to be a dick but if the show is Friday and you just printed the posters how much help are those posters going to be for promotion at this point anyway?
The Shins were cool to us when we did a poster awhile back and let us sell them. I would guess it'll be tough to get permission in this case since Print Mafia has done posters for so many of the shows for this tour.
i just printed a ton of shins posters for the shins show here on friday...now the promoter tells me i cant sell them at the show bc he didnt think the band would be ok with me selling them.
anyone ever have this problem?
i dunno what to do!
i was at the show selling them, i was kind of overshadowed by the t-shirt sales, but i think i sold more of my posters then they did of the print mafia ones. juliette at the merch table told me the band loved my poster and she traded me some shirts for them, that was pretty much all the validation i needed on my poster.
this was an excellent show, they sounded great live. i traded a couple posters for a t-shirt and i got 2 posters signed by the band, all in all it was a great time.
your right michael, cyclone is the typface, it took me a while to decide what i wanted to use, but when i finally ran across it, i knew it was the one.
