Always love a bit of Bush bashing, (apart from our PM, what Aussie doesn't) and dig the poster, but apart from the ape reference I am not sure how this fits Queens. They are so not a political band. In fact the tour t shirt from when they where last here had "Ignoring the world's problems since 1996".
"actually, the type is hand drawn
(except the smaller date and venue info)
that is just the style i was going for..
old school propaganda poster type.. "
I retract my small gripe below. Personally I don't really care either way. I like the poster a lot and it has nothing to do with my personal politics. I just think it's a cool job.
the illo is really incredible. to nit pick on the type, I would say the image should have ended right above the bottom type, then you really would notice donald picking that "O" out of there. And the font for the date sticks out to me. it's that fake rough stencil style, the way those "2"s jump up higher than the rest of the type. still great though.
I don't think the text hurts the poster that much...maybe a bit but the illo is killer, the band is popular...I'll bet it sells out.
So see...
no problems.
Awesome poster, and DC sure needs more. 8th biggest market and no scene to match it.
It does bring out a pet peeve, though: The political theme. If you live in DC, everything has to have a political theme. You can't just have a rock poster for the sake of a rock poster, with cool melting stuff on it. And fire. It gets real old real fast. When Chicago had cow statues and SF had hearts around town- DC had donkeys and elephants as the public art. It gets opressive.
Anyway, awesome poster.
Inside joke for the masses. Oh ho ho...I agree with that! I can relate. That's how I feel.
Same shit...different day. Too easy.
Do something political that actually says something new and shines a new light on something.
I'm sure that this is an amazing print.
See what you miss on these fine posts, E? It can be like stepping in front of a train being driven by James Dobson,...
Now that I think about it, why do I subject myself to this?
So they'll be plastered all over the streets? Nice work.
Fight the good fight. Fuck capitalism and government and what not.
You EMEK are a hero of the revolution.
well, yeah. like most rock posters, it's directed to its audience. but busybody censor types could always spot it and make a ruckus. which is always nice.
So in effect...EMEK is sticking it to...
Who?
Are these pieces of merchandise going up around DC or is it just about selling to the converted at the show and after?
Oh, I'm with ya, don't get me wrong, but sometimes I might make about, oh, you know, little things like the Geneva Convention, & with the pile on I recieve you'd think I was on a Focus on The Family website,...
Which is one of the many reasons why I love your work,..! This is me, segueing back to the poster,...!
well, only half the people have to like it for it to sell out quickly.
and whats the big deal? i just a rock poster.. you know.. "shock value T&A"
...controversy..
Spread that democracy. This looked great in-person at FS. I'd love to see this with your badass hand-lettering, but understand you gotta be under considerable tight deadlines with this tour.
2 solid weeks of drawing every little hair and tuft... lovingly rendered
.. in black, then dark brown, then light brown, then white highlights...
lots of overgrown roots too...
