One day she's in her late teens and comes over to your room where you are an old man, sitting on the comfy chair... she will ask you; "did you really have that 6-pack datd?".. and you will say "why yes, yes I did"
:)
thanks for the explanation... makes sense

MaximumFluorideSend MaximumFluoride a message :   "If I ever get the idea that Im doing artwork that I wouldnt want my daughter to see, then it's artwork that I personally dont need to be doing. But believe me...I think about it. All the time. I want her to be comfortable with the artwork now...and later. Like, when shes older...I want her to look at the work and kinda know who I was. "
Do you really do that? It seems strange to let that dictate what you decide to draw. At least to me anyway.
I never worry about that. It's my art. I decide what is too much or crosses my personal boundries as it pertains to me as a person and as an artist. my children have little or nothing to do with it.
But on the other hand I don't have to many restrictions on the type of art and images my kids see. I think they should be exposed to all types of creative expression. inside of some boundries of course, but not many. Like, scary stuff is totaly fine. Some of my kids like scary stuff and some don't. They decide for themselves what thier take on my work is.
The art I make is not neccesarily "who i am" at any given point in my life. it may just be where I was at at that moment. That is why I make art in the first place. To show the world where I am at that moment.
I don't think my kids judge me based on the art I make. I think they judge me on the man I am. the kind of father I am. As it should be.
Interesting topic for sure. I'm not trying to say that what you do is wrong, just discussing stuff. The world needs all types.

JermaineSend Jermaine a message :   Piemel-
Its funny: I dont think this piece is really scary. Honestly...Im not posing here. I actually think its kind of beautiful. Right now, Gabriella sees my artwork...and its a normal thing. I mean, I dont want to make 'scary' artwork. And if that sounds crazy (and I see how it could) I understand. I can see how my stuff can be seen that way...but I just dont. What I DO actually do is show artwork to Jen...and she helps me to decide if Ive gone over certain 'lines' Ive pre-discussed with here. I dont WANT to make artwork that Gabriella cant see. I like using her in the artwork in very weird and different (albeit tasteful) ways...and I have actually commisoned and am in the ongoing project of commisioning various artists to draw/paint Gabriella in many different ways (Leia is the latest: shes painting Gabriella). I want her to grow up and see herself depicted in a variety of ways...so she can see herself in different ways and help build on the idea of herself as multi-dimensional and 'variant'. Does that make sense? So um...I just play it by ear. If I ever get the idea that Im doing artwork that I wouldnt want my daughter to see, then it's artwork that I personally dont need to be doing. But believe me...I think about it. All the time. I want her to be comfortable with the artwork now...and later. Like, when shes older...I want her to look at the work and kinda know who I was.
Thats funny, huh?

piemelSend piemel a message :   jermaine.... super serious question here...
are you going to shield your daughter away from these posters fro a while or let her see this before she hits 14 or so?
i mean, if i were aprent i would not know if i would like to show this to my kid.... which is not a comment on the artwork... just that without quesiton this can be considered scary by little kids
just asking

JermaineSend Jermaine a message :   "Sorry Jermaine. I thought maybe this was an illustratoin based on a photo of you and your little one."
Michael - It is...loosely. Moreso with Gabriella... I used the me-part in the layout...but then drastically deviated from 'me' when developing the rest of it.
