I hear you about Buzzo, he's the king! The Melvins have always rocked and I'm psyched to see them again for the first time in years.
Anyone in Seattle going to the show? Come by the merch table and say hey as I'll be selling the poster there!

nemotronSend nemotron a message :   nah hampton... not at all really i started making posters so that i could eventually do a poster for 2 bands. MELVINS and FLAMING LIPS. I respect you as an elder in the field of poster art, but your stuff isnt really my style... but im sure that you wouldnt be into my stuff either. i just have a selective taste, as most people do. chances are if i got this gig though, id freak out and just not be able to think of anything and be super intimidated. i met buzzo one time and it was like meeting a god... id worshipped this guy and his band for a decade, and i met him and did an interview and totally made an ass of myself. no hard feelings my man. im doing a fantomas poster soon and thats almost as good as a melvins poster. booyah?   2004-03-06 23:44:41
DWITTSend DWITT a message :   No, i think, like myself, nemotron would LOVE to do a poster for the Melvins, and we would practically pay THEM for the opportunity to do a poster for them.
Not a knock on you.

HamptonSend Hampton a message :   Nemotron* Are you saying that you could've done it better? Sounds like you're insenuating that the poster was wasted on me. Pretty full of ourselves are we?   2004-03-06 21:32:32
nemotronSend nemotron a message :   I would have paid money to do the poster for this gig. oh well... fantomas in a month   2004-03-06 17:00:29

ajosephbSend ajosephb a message :   I dig everything about this. I am a huge fan of everything that PNE guys are doing. This is gunna be a killer show. Right on Justin..Keep it up.   2004-03-06 12:00:01
HamptonSend Hampton a message :   One simple rule about the objective form that is art: You can't please everyone and everyone has an opinion. What some people will love others will hate, so it goes. I design to please myself #1 and if people dig it that's always a bonus. I've had a pretty good 10 year run of pleased fans, I couldn't ask for more than that.   2004-03-06 11:18:05
nemotronSend nemotron a message :   this just isnt workin for me. I wouldve done anything to get this poster gig. i wish i could be psyched about this but in my opinion, theres just nothin going on here. is that supposed to be buzzo? hmmm :|   2004-03-06 09:05:11
Pat. James LongoSend Pat. James Longo a message :   I have to disagree with the statement about type. I went through all of Mr. Hampton's posters and he is pretty spot on. A poster is not an illustration (they can include illustrations). Gig-posters are an announcement for a show. The hair can be more interesting than the face because that is what a concert poster is about. No one is 100% dead on everytime but this guy is more than not. I love these posters. Bravo!   2004-03-06 08:46:10
RichieGoodtimesSend RichieGoodtimes a message :   It bums me out that I can pick out a Hampton poster for all the wrong reasons. You can draw like a mutherfucker. Like a muther fucker, Amazing llustrations. Most definitely some of the best I've ever seen.
But your type...ah man..sometimes you hit it and your illustration totally carries it...no problem there. But sometimes it doesn't. And this is one of them times.
If I can be so humble and relay to you one simple rule I completely understand as far as designing with type goes., which more than applies since your drawing is so strong.
The rule is this.
Never let your hair be more interesting than your face.
I would love to one day collaborate with you,but I doubt it will ever happen. I think we could both make each other look smart.
