Plantweed, What's wrong with the white border around the box? It gives it a cool cheap program feel. The kind of look you expect when going to a sports event.

Dreck? of course it's dreck. I'm not a great artist or designer.
all through the 90's what i did was make ROCK POSTERS as fast as i could and as large and colorful as I could in an attempt to make a living and advertise shows.
I'm not a typographer, an academic intellectual a revolutionary or any of the rest. I made posters and I tried to amuse myself and others.
for some reason some people need to like have everything be so important.
get over yourself.
in the long run no one will give a rats ass about any of this stuff.
I mean none of us (except maybe for seripop) is setting the world on fire, least of all Chantry.
I've said it before and I'll say it again..what i did and do is do the best within my abilities.
all this high falutin talk about type...shit..i dont see any of you making type. Those guys in delaware (House) make type...everyone slags them. that Carson dude made typ-slag-emigre-slag. whatever. who the fuck cares/ the sun is shining. gimme a fruitpie.

well, i find it much easier to pick out what is good here. for instance, the illustration is GREAT! never seen him do anything like it before or since, so assume he lifted it. oh well.
i like the muted tonal colors - but that may be an offshoot of the lift?
dunno. i need to know more about it to figure out what's going on.
hard to tell.
but the type really kills what's good about it.

yeah, I dig the stuff that he's done when he steps away from the Frank Kozik norm, the early posters, The Gas Huffer Soviet poster, this one..I find them interesting. The cartoon character ones are kinda tired to me because it's like, It's almost like there aren't any other ideas going on in papa Kozik's head so do another cartoon character, then he up and surprises us with a deviation. I haven't seen this one up close so I can't vouch for the craftmanship of the printing but I like the concept..I don't however think that it's very "Art Chantry". I would however take this poster any day over a picture of Deputy Dog sodomizing Charles Manson.

really? i PREFER his cartoon character work. it seems so much more like "frank kozik".
this other work done in randomly selected styles look like he's trying to fake something he can't do. it's always looked like that to me and he should quit trying to be everything all at once. he's much batter at his 'classic style', and that's what's given him so much acclaim. it's brilliant and perect for his personality.
this other stuff just looks insecure, like's he's afraid nobody will take seriously unless he shows he can do it all or some such nonsense.
go get a copy of 'swag' and look at what he submitted. no bad work, but not great work, either.
all the folks i know who have seen the book are greatly disappointed in his section. it looks like he sent stuff that he thought looked like important design work and not the work that made him famous. a terrible selection of frank's work for an 'intro/overview' sort of book.
man, if it ain't broke, don't go fucking trying to FIX it!

i remember when you did this thing for dave. i remember you said you were "doing fake chantry" because it was so easy. you were actually hoping i'd get pissed at you for conquering my world and taking the piss out of me. exposing me, essentially. at least that was what i was told by folks that you were doing. you've always seemd to resent my work.
eveybody i know thought you sucked at "fake chantry".

I ran the film on this bitch.. It took fucking forever to process. That dude Nick had the file set to print at like 300 lines per inch which at the time was a new process. Most film was output for like 150 lpi.. But Nck wanted to be high tech even though it didn't make a difference in the look.. It drove me nuts dealing with this because I had to explain to Frank why all the shit Nick was doing took ten years to print.. Apparently he saved everything this way..
