"There were always weird smells coming from his house, you know, sometimes burning rubber, other times it smelled of rotting meat. We thought he was a taxidermist. No one ever saw him during the day, except when he would have target practice in his back yard. He would shoot his machine gun into an old tree stump. Sure we thought it was odd, but this is Pennsylvania. Who would have thought? And to think we let our kids play in the woods behind his house. I guess that's where they found most of the partially eaten dead bodies. So sad."
Mr. Altieri is being held without bail pending his arrainment.
This is Larry Mendte reporting, CBS 3 Philadelphia.
Back to you in the studio Alycia.
Nextdoor neighbor: " He was kind of quiet. He kept to himself. He was a really nice fella though. Didn't seem the type to like, do what he did you know? I mean who would have though little old Jim would be burning down churches with all the people inside? Just goes to show... ya never really know somebody"
News reporter: "Back to you Tom."
altieri gives me the impression of a guy who spends way too much time in the basement loading his own bullets. the kind of guy you read about...after the fact. i'd be willing to bet that he has a bomb shelter too. stocked with can goods, AR15's, a case of amyel nitrate, a honda generator, and snuff films. lots of snuff films.
altieri in 84. he'd get my vote.
