I just want to say its not that easy to draw this simply. One of the great things about the silkscreening medium is the ability to use drawings from sketchbooks to "finished" types of pieces. I think this thread has gotten pretty out of hand. I think if the Personality issues from all sides were not as prevalent we'd all just be talking about the art.
1600 pulls sounds scary.
i remember the first time i silkscreened with you guys, my arm muscles were flamingly numb. :P 'n i think i only pulled a small number of squeegees that day.
a few points in point form:
1) yes anyone may comment however they wish AND anyone may respond to that comment how THEY wish.
2) some people here take things so literally that it msakes me feel like i'm hanging out with my mother ( who at 57 still does not comprend sarcasm, exageration, hyperbole, or humour in any way , shape or form)
3)i don't really care- just having my fun.
4) this was fun to draw.
5)did i mention we have been comissined by both bands on this poster to do ALL the oosters for thier next tour(s)?
6) aa and dfa are 2 of my favorite bands. both are heavy and noisy and contain sexy kids that are nice.
7) yannick and i just got home from the shop. today we printed 1600 pulls on the sqeegee. i think that might be our record. it took about 14 hours.
8)right now my entire body but mostly arms and back feel as if they are engulfed in flames.
9) jw- if melissa doesn't mind i'd like to nestle in your moustache and take a nap.
10) these are almost asold out. i think we have 11-14 left. if you want one get it now.
11) don't any of you get tired of harping on the same shit constanly?
12) i'm all cafienated right now!
People feel passionate about your work whether they like it or not, enough to spend time debating why they don't like it. There are lots of bad posters that get no
comments.
Also, it doesn't matter if you don't get it, or can't read the type, because like all the great designers on this site this is much more than just a gigposter.
I love seripop stuff because it is, first and foremost, art. I like that the imagery is more important than ANYthing else.
Regardless of what other people think I admire the risks that Chloe and Yannick take, and as someone who has been arguing on messageboards myself (to the point of getting death threats on certain scottish music scene forums) for the last 5 years it is a relief to see someone else being as contentious.
Long may Chloe continue.
In other news: I feel it is important that everyone uses the insult 'Lurd' at least once this week in honour of my friend Kat and I who made it up.
A+++++ Tara gold star for you. I love the way you found the story behind the scribbles.
I think the horse with the red hoof has teberculosis and he has now spread his deat to the herd and the population of the castle. They're all gonna die!!!!!!!!
Clay, is there a way that you could permanantly pre-empt any attempt to start up this tired old argument in any thread/comment thing again?
That would be great.
k, here you go...
i like how the simple and rough white linework draws my eye in to the upper area of the poster, then how i'm forced to look down at the radiating castle in the center of the bottom. the red against the black is a nice color transition into the brighter colors of the orange and yellow. one could theorize why the tops of the horses heads are cut off...is it they are implied to be deaf and the castle is being torched by assasins trying to kill the queen. the earless horses to be a symbol of blissful innocence? what is the significance, if any, of the one red dot of paint on the center horses left hoof. he stubbed his toe while jumping over the castle... or is it because he is free compared to the saddled and skeleton horses.
seripop's poster work seldom makes any logical sense to my eye, but it always manages to intrigue my mind a great deal.
i really don't fully get it, and i don't care. i'll just enjoy them and keep on looking...
that's one hell of a compliment, actually.
why defend it at all? If you put your best into your work and you and your client are happy who gives a shit what anyone says. Sure you can hope for constructive crit, but this is Gigposters, we have short little attentions spans. Yeah maybe Chloe didn't want to hear something negative but I'm sure ajosephb didn't want to hear a death wish and a slam on his faith either. If you post it they will slag it, thats the game play it or get off the the fuckin field.
thats completely understandable..but still, if someone laid into my work on here by saying something like it'd be better off as just black, i'd kick em back aswell..why let em get away with it? its not about fighting with people its about having the right to defend ur work against being slagged off. and look, from my point of view im not having a go at ajb, i just made my point and it went apeshit...but still, a learning experience nonetheless and it just goes to show what proper communication can achieve instead of letting ur immediate anger get the better of u
Whatever, man. I didn't say AJB didn't have a right to make those comments. I was just saying that he shouldn't feign shock when someone tells him to go fuck off.
I mean, seriously...
"Check yourself, Chloe"?
You've gotta be kidding me. If you want, AJB, I can come and wipe away your tears. I'm sure you're terribly upset.
Dude, its just not a big deal. So someone doesnt like your thing. So, someone doesnt like 'you'. So what? And then to have like your circle of friends rush onto the site to 'defend' you and tear down whoever the person was who made the crit...whatever. Thats dumb.
Seripop is like...WORKING. Theyve got contracts...album covers, etc. Like, why care that someone aint into you or your 'thing'?
I actually dig a lot of Chloe and Yannick's work lately. I think they got that 'thing' that can take them wherever they want to go. That 'vibe'. I like that Chloe says whats on her mind...even that she does it without thinking sometimes...in my opinion. That's REAL.
Im just saying I think shed be THAT MUCH MORE potent if like...she totally didnt care about or try to justify crits. Like, so what?
Ive done posters on here...get critted constantly. And yea, I can notice that certain folks ALWAYS seem to zero in on my crap and slag it. Whatever...cause they ALL realize that I pretty much dont care. Not one crit on this little board has ever made me change how I do things.
That pisses off those folks who crit cause they just dont like me. So they end up hating me more.
It's d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s to me.... 8)
The forums are filled with her tirades of hating this, that and everything with little or no rhyme reason, respect of anyone's feelings or an ounce of perfessionalism. Most times she is defended as if she were the retarded little sister and "she don't know no better" Fuck that, say what you want your opinion is just as valid as the guy that has done a thousand posters or three.
Fuck it, I'll say it. This really bad poster it's stupid, lame, and it sucks!
Why is it that the internet forum laws such as they are apply to everyone but Miss Chloe. Why is she free to shit of anything she likes and be absolved of any wrong doing or insensitivity? Yet one honest yet albeit harsh crit is met with a death wish from Chloe (my shit don't stink here in the GP) Lum and is hardly noticed.
hey budy, you look like your free...why dont you scrub this toxic baby shit out of everypossible crevace I have...messy messy from what i hear...like, it ends up in places that are scientifically impossible to get to.
Please....
People can comment on these things ANY WAY THEY WANT. Period. They dont have to be 'constructive' or 'courteous' or 'nice'...whatever. They can tear your stuff down because its ugly. Or because they just dont like you.
Period.
Man, if you cant deal with that, dont post your stuff up here.
Nobody's gotta have a reason to not like your stuff.
And if they slag you cause they dont like you...so what? Deal with it.
Welcome to the world: those are the same reasons people dont support peoples stuff in 'real' life...
My goodness...
CARE LESS.
:o
I dont even remember commenting on this poster. Let alone what I said. Chloe is far from the constructive critisism giver...
Anyhow...time to look at more posters.. yay
Comment on only the good ones by saying things like...
Sweet
Badass
Kick Ass
I want this
When commenting on bad posters
Please give detailed justification on why you don't like it..
dont use phrases like
this sucks
stupid
lame
really bad
well i managed to get a few o yuz denying it, as though i was being serious when i said that u could die from chewing gum..2-0 motherland i think
ps, u dont know if anyone drank any weedkiller to get a tan either do u? i dont wanna get sued or owt :-?
man, everythings taken so goddam literally around here..no one said u have to be an artist to pass comment, they said that passing negative comment on someones work when ur incapable of doing any half decent work urself is annoying and lame..u like trying to put me in my place dont u plast? and u dont die if u swallow chewing gum either, dumb ass.
i can understand how the comment "the only thing that would make this better would be if it was all black" would piss anyone off. there's really not a need for that kind of stuff. it's ok not to like it and to state that you do not, but it's about being "constructive". like i said before in a thread, people do take nonconstructive, negative comments personally and rightfully so since art IS a PERSONAL thing.
i would just for future ease, try to communicate your dislike as constructively as possible so as to avoid agravating someone that has put alot of time onto their work...if you enjoy it or not.
i agree, the rest is a little silly...no one should censor comments...maybe just think about them sometimes...myself included.
Listen..you guys are making a bigger deal out of this than necessary.
I'm just one of the people that simply does not get Seripop posters. No big deal. They are doing just fine without me buying their prints.
The type is usually hard to read and the image does nothing for me.
I think that it is pretty lame that anyone would want me to stop commenting on particular posters.
The amount of $$$ I spent on gigposters should be justification enough that I know what I am talking about. Or at least that I care about this genre of art.
I spend many many hours researching and looking at new and old posters.
I'm a nacho eater and I need fed.
to be constructive I personally would say that this is not my favorite seripop work...it seems bland in comparisioon to most of their work.
that said, i know nothing about the bands...except that I enjoy having fun with one the bands names.
to be fair to chloe his comment was not constructive at all. it was a dig...and it worked, chloe - like myself - is prone to give someone her piece of mind if she feels that they are not being constructive, but making a dig.
the whole matter of having to be an artist to have an opinion on the other hand is on the otherside of stupid.
Yeah, Chloe. You should develop a thicker skin. It's not as if this ajosephb guy has commented on each and every one of your posters, telling you and everyone else on the site how much he thinks you suck. I mean, THAT would be a little out of line. But he didn't do that. He simply respectfully suggested that a blank piece of paper would be better than your poster. That the only way to improve this image would be to obliterate it completely. He's not being a dick or anything. He's just offering you a little constructive criticism.
So check yourself.
And while you're at it, chiggidy-check yourself. That is, before you wriggidy-wreck yourself.
I see what you're saying lil_tuffy, and I usually like Chloe and Yannicks stuff, almost without exception. I even like this one, a lot.
But, if someone doesn't like it they have a right to say. I sure as hell know people take all the goddamn liberty they want in telling me how much I suck.
I'm sorry Chloe, you know I like you and your work, but if you don't want to accept criticism from the people who post here, then why do you submit your work to a place where that is possible.
You've gotta learn to take it gracefully.
How come this happens everytime Seripop does a poster? It's like a broken record.
If you don't like it, maybeyou just refrain from commenting on it and then you won't have to wade through pages and pages of comments with posters you don't like on them.
no someone contantly making homophobic and rightwing comments on the forums makes em ignorant and unworthy of my time
them not liking my stuff justs makes them have bad taste
in conclusion we have been asked by both bands on this poster to do tour series for them.
my prob with ajb is not him not liking my stuff
it's him consistently froming himself to be an asshole, less than intellgent, ignorant , thugish homophobe
his opinion on my shit means zero because of his general outlook and displayed lack of intellegence.
feel free to carry on with this pointless argument.
I think wishing death on someone because of their comments on your poster is a little bit overboard. Indeed, I think it's downright ridiculous.
That said, I like the x-ray horses. Cool image. I think I've said this before, but the seripop sketchy stuff reminds me (in a good way) of James Patterson's work.
I know exactly what you mean. And agree for the most part. Except, I LOVE nachos. And the thing is at this sort of website where anyone and everyone CAN comment, they WILL comment.
so the fuck what? He's your audience, if he doesn't like something he's perfectly entitled to that opinion...wouldn't you think wishing death on someone for that opinion is a little extreme?
Jesus, everyone is entitled to their opinion, do you have to be able to draw to have an opinion about someone's drawing? I don't think so..If AJB stated he liked this poster would that fact that he can't draw make his opinion null? I personally don't think so.
no big deal, its just that people sitting around on their talentless asses eating nachos giving negative opinions about what other people who are actually DOING ART are doing with their art is kinda annoying and lame..sorry, no big deal
Thank goodness it's Sunday and fewer people are logged in. Otherwise, we'd have to go throught the ENTIRE argument ALL OVER AGAIN about how anyone can comment on anything. Nothing matters. And who cares?
For the record
I like a few seripop posters. This one I do not like. Whats the big deal?
I can't hit a 98 mile an hour fastball out of Safeco Field, but I like the Mariners.
You don't have to be able to draw to have an opinion on art.
for the record i like seripop's stuff..its not to everyones taste, its hit and miss but its unique and adventurous..so basically u cant draw for shit but ur quite happy to slag off other peoples work, at least im allowed to, i can draw
Damn guys...
It is mearly my fucking opinion...
I cant draw for shit...Never said I could.. Don't pretend I can..
If it pleases the court. I will never comment on a seripop poster again..
Unless a good one is posted.
