boadiceaSend boadicea a message :   I prefer the original version of the Damned's cover of Jet Boy-Jet Girl   2006-11-08 21:14:21
MaximumFluorideSend MaximumFluoride a message :   No. Jet Boy were like Sunset Strip style glam. Like Hanoi Rocks were down for them and stuff. Mike, Matt and Fernie of Jet Boy were room mates of Axle and Izzy before any of them made it. They put out a couple of crappy glam records on some major. That didnt pan out so they moved back up to The Bay Area.
After a while they started playing more Metal style stuff. Lemmy wrote a bunch of songs for them in fact. Eventually they became like, a Pantera style metal band and chnaged thier name to Mind Zone. Then they broke up.
Even better than that though was thier side band Amy The Butterfly. That band ruled the wasteland.
Mind Zone were amazing. Ask Murph.

Zach HobbsSend Zach Hobbs a message :   what was the glammy band on the early BYO comps?   2006-11-08 18:23:10
MaximumFluorideSend MaximumFluoride a message :   Agreed John A. Blatent Localism was pretty awesome. Once they went into that whole paisly shirt phase I was out. Thier cover of the Peanuts theme was killer though.
Chron Gen blew. Although.. they had a 7" called jet Boy- Jet Girl which was where the glam band Jet Boy got thier name. Murph and I are old, old friends with the Jet Boy dudes.
So there you go...

John ASend John A a message :   ... and who was this chron-gen band anyway?
Once this flag gets raised I say we vote them off the island.

John ASend John A a message :   To clarify, I dug that first JFA EP "Blatant Localism" with the classic snotty "Beach Blanket Bong-out" and "Cokes and Snickers", Killer sleeve too... opened up the skate punk thing quite a bit.   2006-11-08 18:12:29

Zach HobbsSend Zach Hobbs a message :   I got the GTA Circle One CD and it blows!   2006-11-08 17:57:01
Zach HobbsSend Zach Hobbs a message :   "I got a gun" is channel 3. "I like Guns" is D.I. "Janie's gotta gun" is aerosmith
Sadly, the single of "I got a gun" isn't on the first Channel 3 LP on PoshBoy.
  2006-11-08 17:56:29
MaximumFluorideSend MaximumFluoride a message :   Was it Channel Three that had the song "She's got a gun" or was it "I got a gun" I seem to remember that. I liked that song.
Never really liked JFA. Wasted Youth and The Lewd were great though.

channel 3- before they went metal, had great art by the infamous fotographer Ed Colver..classic songs like "you make me feel cheap"
great lineup all around

John ASend John A a message :   Out of this lineup, I was more into the Lewd, JFA, Wasted Youth, and Huskers.

Zach HobbsSend Zach Hobbs a message :   Also Christian fundamentalist too   2006-11-08 17:26:53
MaximumFluorideSend MaximumFluoride a message :   I was never a fan of Chron Gen myself. Battalion Of Saints was more my style. Channel 3 and Circle One were good as well. Circle One were all hardcore gangstery tpye OC dudes.   2006-11-08 16:56:08

Free beer did rule , that name is up there with Naked Lady Wrestlers
  2006-11-08 15:19:53
MaximumFluorideSend MaximumFluoride a message :   I had the LP that came out of this. Sooo.. I am going to figure this was like, 82-83-84. Most likely 83.
free Beer ahd Tommy Guerro on bass or guitar.. can't remember. They had an awesome song called My Money or My Car?" I beleive that song appeared on this recording.
Chron gen likely got top billing as they were from England and Husker Du hadn't really hit thier stride quite yet? Maybe... who knows.

blacklistedinternationalSend blacklistedinternational a message :   I agree with John A: How did Chron Gen, who is a good band, get top billing? Over Husker Du? Love to know the year.   2006-11-08 14:50:57
PlantweedSend Plantweed a message :   There was a band called Free Beer? Imagine the yahoos that showed up to their shows...   2004-03-30 06:16:16
klutchSend klutch a message :   Theres a great tale about this show where some punks had a row boat and spent the day shuttling people across the water so they could get in for free. Also youi had to wear a bandana over your mouth cause the pit was a duststorm from everyone slamming in the dirt.   2003-06-21 18:53:41
kozikSend kozik a message :   dig it   2002-07-09 13:42:40
John ASend John A a message :   Classic piece. I just have to wonder how Chron-Gen got top billing over all the other great acts they had here? I mean, was it just cuz they travelled from England or something?   2002-05-16 10:31:08
