the shadow only bothers me because it narrows out in an unreal fashion...great illustation and I like the type work...opinions...keep doing what your doing. :)
well, the promoter for this show was just hyped in the local paper yesterday and the poster is on the front page of the site. the response was so huge that we're skipping the digital output and I'm going to screen it afterall.
OK, I'm re-evaluating my text crit, but I haven't decided yet. That being said, I really like the idea of the bracket divideing the illo, it makes a natuaral spot for text. Along these lines, I think the shadow gives that feature more depth.
Thanks for the feedback. After 3 different versions, I was feeling kinda unsure but the deadline loomed. I decided to return to this style for this promoter: http://www.gigposters.com/posters.php?poster=11072
It's funny reading the clean text vs. hand drawn comments. If you look at my last poster, it was just the opposite - clean illo and hand drawn text. I hadn't intended that but whatever.
Nice work! I like the background and text elements and their smooth lines vs. the scratchy lines of the figure. That with the green in the gator to tie them together. I imagine it being quite legible in person.
