actually I spent about a month reading all available literature on DuChamps 'The Bride and The Bachelors, then i took 2 hits of acid'...this was my result.
I'd like to thank the McArthur Foundation for the grant that made it all possible.
okay, everyone is making fun of this, but 58 (now 59) comments? it has got more exposure than many of the 'cool' designs posted here... and isn't that what doing posters is all about? Leave your wanky 6-colour silkscreen jobs at home, let loose the absurdly bad photoshop slash and burn and watch the people respond! This guy (or girl) is my new fucking hero.
I think the randomizer is broke or something. If there are 12,785 posters on here, how could this poster possibly show up on my randomizer three times this week? Statistically this should not happen. I'm in near tears here.
these are true east coast hosers!
I love that the scrawled type is a FONT! I love the ellipse with 2 dots (not 3--how economic!) I love that even tho' the show is in February, they're all wearing Santa hats! I love when things are pronounce 'v.3.0', especially when the music is so 'hi-tech'. I love when people give the 'thumbs up' in photos. God... this is what we mean when we say 'gay-bad'.
"I'm not surprised you can't see the link between my work and the russian poster art school. The artists and work I'm influenced is quite obscure and no doubt you probably haven't come into contact with it. It's too bad because then you'd really have something valid to say about my work. Oh well, c'est la vie"
i have my suspicions that the sg is right-handed and the image is just reversed - the gibson logo on the strap is backwards. though the fella is playing some other left-handed contraption just below as well. hmmm. guess i'll see if russian poster artists flip images just to change the composition. (sarcasm) :|
know what? i have my suspicions that this rivetface is not who he seems. unless he took his name from frank's comment of having a "rivet through his face". and i would hope that someone posting their first poster up here would not be so pompous and generally annoying about some minor criticisms of their poster. (not that it says who's poster it was, either. hmmm...)
but whatever, if it really is your poster, rivetface, tone down the attitude and pick up some books, would be my suggestion.
(oh, and i want that left-handed gibson sg on the left. sweeeet.)
Rule #1: If you're passing blood, time to visit the Doctor.
Rule #2: Just because your Mommy and Daddy PAID for art lessons, doesn't mean you have to show up.
Rule #3: Stop listening to those voices in your head, they never went to art school.
Rule #4: Pencils were invented for reasons other than cleaning out your ears.
Rule #5: Make a shitty poster, get lot's of comments.
Rule #6: Act all defensive, and throw around several obscure names in your defence.
Rule #7: Call Kozik a Hack, even if he's your favorite poster artist.
Rule #8: Ask your Doctor if the shaking from the Lithium is affecting your work.
Dudes, I see the connection!
russian poster artists AND rivetface are both depicting the oppression of peace-loving,industrious people by their evil governments!
Rivetface is simply depicting the yearning of his native canadian people to be free of the harsh living conditions of Canada. Look at the faces of the people both in this poster and in the equally masterful works of the Russian artists, and you will see the intelligence and high spirits of people who will not be broken.
Not by Bread lines OR sub-standard beer.
don't mind me, I made pot brownies this weekend, and I think they are still with me as I type this.
I need to seriously wake up, as rivet said.
you are far to prentious for the shitty work u do.
imac or not relying on it isn't helping you.
a computer can't magically make u a designer.
most of us gig poster designers have either been to art school or studyied independently QUITE a fair bit.
the artsts u name dropped are't nearly as obscure as u think- i myself took a whole 3 credit class in russian poster and don't see any stylistic conection at all.
maybe if u keep exploring and try usic your hands instead of photoshop tools u might eventually do something good
right now u are far from good and have a LONG way to go
lose the attitude, eduicate your self
EXPERIMENT and maybe take a few drawing classes.
Here are some links for those of us who are uneducated:
rivet no offense but i think your "work" here if u can call it that reflects a real naiviety about aestectic, type and design.
i really do not find this poster attractive or apealing in anyway.
nor do i feel it has any link what so ever with the russian poster art school.
i guess we all gotta start somewhere huh?
i sugest you lose the computer and try collaging and rendering by hand.
a xerox and some glue sticks ARE your friends.
...not even that. they perform Skits For Seniors twice a month at the Home.
Mysteriously, a lot of the seniors seem to be ill on those days an stay in their rooms.
Except for Mrs. Rosebaum. But she thinks she's back in Poland anyway.
