yeah I love that sketch... and it's not far from the look I wanted. I posted this on my site earlier this week: I was looking at Blue Note record covers and the line quality those illustrations have. The vibe on those covers feels close to the Black Keys aesthetic to me. I thought about places I’ve visited in the city, and how drawing the tenements could represent the band’s beginnings more than the bright lights. The patterning in the fire escapes also gave me something to work with graphically. I really didn't pay much attention to Blue Note until I got on this site in 2003 and read some of Chantry's posts on it.
