i accidentally credited this bob newman. that was a mistake on my part. bob has a hellova story, too. he was at the rocket and later became art director of newsweek, the village voice, vibe and now real simple.
this was done by helene silverman. she was art director at the rocket just before me. the metropilis was a great all ages club where a lot of big seattle bands got their start.
helene left seattle for new york soon after this poster. she worked on vogue and a couple of other conde nast publictions and then got a gig working on the new design of a magazine called (coincidentally) 'metropolis". she was the person who made that magazine look so cool. it almost looked like "the rocket - east" when she did the new design. it quickly became one of the hippest design mags in the country.
she also dragged along a couple of old rocket co-horts like karrie jacobs, who got her start as a design critic there. now karrie edits (i think) dwell magazine and writes books on design.
helene later moved on to other projects and did a number of famous things. she started hello design company, too. later she got married to gary panter and now they have a cool daughter 'olive sienna' - named after a couple of their favorite crayola colors.
old punks end up in strange places.

"NOTE: All-ages Metropolis attempted to produce a disco night with guest DJs spinning their Fave Raves. This idea still never seems to work in Seattle."
