The gig did take place. This is a small flyer which I had a high res scan of on my Thin Lizzy website and some asshole lifted it and is now selling copies on eBay
I love Rod's voice on the Beck Group / Faces stuff. I saw one of those cheesy tv ads for his new record the other night - "Rod Sings the Classics" or whatever. What the hell happened?
oh, and later at the same gig (they were using the stones folding "lotus stage" from the 1972 tour. in fact, they had just left the after show party to come to do this show), stewart was tossing the mike stand up as high as he could and then catching it like a baton. he finally threw it up so high it got caught in the rigging and didn't come down.
pure drunken class.
i once saw faces and they were so drunk that they kept falling down. rod stewart ended up singing flat on his back holding th mike stand directly above his head, singing up into it. the drunker they got, the better they played.
it's hard to belive that rod stewart was ever great, but he REALLY WAS fantastic once. up until the time he started going out with britt eklund. then he went all hollywood, and he turned to total shit.
I think people should post more "Classic" posters. -- Maybe Clay could even have a "Classic Gigposters" section for stuff like this, and Griffin, and generally Pre-Kozik stuff.
It would rely, ofcourse, on people posting from their personal collections, since folks like Rick Griffin are passed-on.
