I'm digging this too! From a distance, you can only see the text. The illustration is secondary to getting the info across. That's a tough thing to do. As an illustrator you want people to see the art first and read the info second. Design and illustration aren't fighting against each other. And it's very Hanna Barbera too! Damn you meddling kids!
